A patient in a vegetative state has no capacity to make decisions and based on their condition they will not get better.  It is very uncommon that some in a vegetative state regain full consciousness. The patient can recover some knowledge that they can follow little commands such as blink to say yes or no.  They may not be able to speak, but commands such as squeezing someone’s hand indicates that they can feel.  I believe that it is 50/50 regarding limiting family in the decision-making process without advance directives………. …………..
