Capital punishment is deemed an unconstitutional act prohibited by many states.  Designed centuries ago to control crime through fear, it has been stated that capital punishment does not control crime but increases the rate.  Death penalty is viewed as government-initiated violence where the population will think it is morally acceptable to perform the same and thus death penalty can have an opposite effect and increase crime rate.
